BANGALORE: Principal Secretary to Energy Department K. Jairaj on Friday set a target of generating 5,000 MW of renewable energy in the State in the next five years. “At present the State was generating around only 2,000 MW of renewable energy. We must add a minimum of 1,000 MW of renewable energy to the State grid every year for five years,” he said. Such an addition was a challenge to the State as well as its entrepreneurs. But it was possible to face these challenges effectively. This was a must as the unrestricted demand (if the power had to be supplied round the clock to all the consumers including farmers) of the State was to the tune of 2,000-2,500 MW, he said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
