7 get life term in murder case

Tiruvannamalai: Seven persons on Friday were given life imprisonment in a murder case of an aged person near here in 2003. According to prosecution, Donbosco, Krishnaraj, Lurduswamy, all sons of Rafel, Lawrance, son of Savarimuthu, Anthonisami, son of Antony, Arockiyasamy, son of Antony, and Lurduswamy, son of Asirvatham, attacked Gnanaprakasam (60) and a few others of Jaminkoodalur with lethal weapons on March 20, 2003.

The seven persons had rivalry with Savarimuthu, who had lost to Anthonisami in an election. The rivalry resulted in a clash on March 20. When Gnanaprakasam sought to pacify the groups, Donbosco and his men attacked him. Gnanaprakasam succumbed to injuries later at a hospital.

Tiruvannamalai Sessions Judge T. Ravindran handed down life sentence to all accused. While all others were directed to pay each Rs. 8,500 fine, Krishnaraj was slapped a fine of Rs.9,500.
