Amaravathy river banks inspected by Collector

KARUR: Six huts have been fully damaged while 25 others have been partially damaged in Karur district, sources in the administration said.

Three heads of cattle have been lost. Relief operations in the affected areas were under way.

District administration and officials from various departments continued to monitor the situation.

Collector J. Umamaheswari along with officials from the Public Works Department and Revenue Department inspected the Amaravathy river banks at Mochakottampalayam and Bypass.

She said that the Amaravathy Dam remained closed but rainwater was flowing down the river.

At least 2,814 cusecs of water was flowing into the river on Friday morning.

Mettur Dam also remained shut and the river was carrying 1,800 cusecs of rainwater. There was no fear of flood in the two rivers, she assured the public.

The district recorded a total of 525.60 mm over the 24 hours ending 8.30 a.m. on Friday.

Rainfall

The chief amounts of rainfall (in mm) registered at various locations in the district during the period are as follows: Panjapatti 68.40, Mayanur 59.60, Krishnarayapram 59, K. Paramathi 51.40, Anaipalayam 50, Mylampatti 49.2, Karur town 41.20, Palaviduthi 36, Kulithalai 33.60, Kadavur 30, Aravakurichi 27.20 and Thogamalai 20 mm.
