Festive mood on city campuses

KOCHI: The mood around city colleges for the last two days is vibrant and vivacious. ‘Aaravam 08’, the annual youth fest organised by the Mahatma Gandhi University, brought together friends and provided them with an opportunity to celebrate.

A few youngsters termed the fest, as ‘an extended picnic’. “Yes, it’s fun time. We chat a lot during such occasions. Time seems to be moving so fast these days,” Jaideep, a B.Sc student said. Amal R. Nair, Jaideep’s friend, said that the festival mood is really something different.

“I am not participating in any event but enjoying every minute of the show. It’s a gala time for all of us. Students get a chance to hang around and mingle during youth festivals,” he said.

Arathy Menon, a student of humanities, was happy to take a break from the routine college life. “We get a chance to meet students from other colleges. My group has already found new friends thanks to the get together of students from other colleges,” she said.

Reshma George, Arathy’s friend, was equally thrilled. “It is not just the competitions. It is more of new relationships, fun time and celebrations,” she said.

Students moved in groups from one venue to another in the morning. Stalls providing ice creams and coffee enjoyed brisk business. Students turned up at these venues to unwind. A sense of camaraderie prevailed everywhere. Students were spotted making last minute preparations for the theatre events held on Friday.

Some of the participants looked relieved minutes before the beginning of the mono act event. They were here just to participate in the event and not to grab the top prizes. “We want to make this occasion really memorable. The celebrations will continue till Sunday, when the fest will come to a close,” said Sandeep, a final-year degree student.
