HYDERABAD: Claiming full credit for making Mahatma Jyotirao Phule a household name, Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi on Friday said his party would allot more number of seats to those from the Backward Classes than any other political party in the next elections.

Addressing a largely-attended meeting, he said that the ideals and thoughts of great people like Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi, B.R. Ambedkar and Jyotirao Phule reminded him of his social responsibility.

He went around stalls set up by artisans including potters, weavers, stone-cutters, blacksmiths, goldsmiths. At a stall where tribal women displayed their mirror-worked garments. Recalling that while one political party said it would give 33 per cent of seats to BCs and another said it would earmark 100 seats, Mr. Chiranjeevi said the Praja Rajyam would give the maximum. “A year ago, when I was discussing my political plans with friends, I admit I did not know about Mahatma Phule and the social reformer’s work. I also did not realise that the words -- social justice -- were an all-encompassing term that included political and economic justice too,” he said.

On his party’s agenda, he said “I do not have to tell people everytime what I will do or how I will go about achieving social justice. I will do it,” he declared.
