Technology exhibition, symposium a big draw

KALPETTA: SPERANZA ’08, a national-level technical symposium, and the exhibition DHARPAN ’08, organised by the electronics and computer science departments of the Government Engineering College, Wayanad, was a big draw.

The exhibition, which concluded on Saturday, aimed to update students and the public with the latest technologies.

The stall of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram, was the main attraction. Models of satellites, launch vehicles and rockets and diagrammatic representations of Indian space projects were exhibited.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. displayed the oldest to the most modern telecommunication technologies.

The stall of the Nature Club, set up in association with OISCA, attracted many.

The public got an opportunity to see the basic components of electronic instruments of daily use. A robotic vehicle controlled from a distance of up to 3 km by a computer showed how it would be helpful to study inaccessible areas.

An electronic wheelchair manufactured by the students of the college was exhibited.

The students who constructed an induction coil, a widely used component in electrical and electronic devices, using a ‘Puttukutti’ (a utensil used to steam flour to make ‘Puttu’) won applause.
