Man gets life term for murder

Kozhikode: The Kozhikode First Additional District and Sessions Court on Saturday sentenced a person to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs.7,000 for murdering his paternal uncle at Perambra here five years ago.

Judge B. Sudheendra Kumar found the accused Vinodan, 38, of Tharavattathu House, Kandiyangad, Perambra, guilty of killing Chappan Nair, 55, under Section 302 (murder) and Section 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). If he failed to remit the penalty, the accused would have to undergo an additional one-and-a-half years in prison.

The penalty, if paid, would be compensated to the first witness, C. Chirudevi, wife of Chappan Nair.
