Bijapur
It demands medical assistance for the injured and compensation to families of the dead Bijapur: The Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) city organising committee has vehemently condemned the Mumbai attacks. In a press release on Saturday, committee convener B. Bhagvan Reddy said that whoever indulged in the brutal strikes resulting in the deaths of unarmed people for whatever cause must bear in mind that it is bound to have dire consequences and a boomerang effect. He urged the authorities to realise that even supporting a just cause was negated by adoption of a course of action which involved mindless violence and killing of common man. Therefore, people should shun inappropriate, unjust and self-defeating means to achieve their ends. Strongly indicting the Central and Maharashtra governments, Mr. Reddy said this wanton killing of people in the commercial capital of the country showed how “callous and irresponsible the governments are towards protecting life and property of the common man despite boasting of having a well-equipped intelligence system and an advanced police and military setup”. Strongly criticising the governments, he said they had no clue of such a large operation being planned by a highly organised group of people. They have now found that hundreds of suspected terrorists had entered into the country through sea, Mr. Reddy said. Lame excuse“This is nothing but a lame excuse to shield its inaction and abject failure in discharging its minimal obligation to the people”. Mr. Reddy demanded that the Centre immediately take steps to stop such incidents of mindless killing and violence, use its intelligence and police force well and restore confidence of people who were now in the state of total helplessness and insecurity. It should also provide medical assistance and compensation to families of the injured and the dead, he said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
