Homage paid to victims of Mumbai terror attacks

Saluting martyrs: A condolence meeting organised by Karnataka Exhibition Authority at Dasara exhibition grounds in Mysore for the victims of the Mumbai terror strikes.

MYSORE: A condolence meeting was held in Mysore on Saturday in memory of the hundreds of innocent people who died in the Mumbai terrorist attacks.

Karnataka Exhibition Authority (KEA) officials and tenants of the stalls at Dasara Exhibition Grounds at Doddakere maidan here joined the visitors to the exhibition on Saturday evening to pay their respects to the Mumbai terror victimswho sacrificed their lives to protect the nation.

Mayor Ayub Khan, Inspector-General of Police, Southern Range, Jeevan Kumar Goankar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Jawahar and editor of “Andolana Kannada” placed wreaths at the base of a hoarding erected inside the exhibition premises. KEA Chief Executive Officer A.B. Ibrahim was also present on the occasion.

Visitors to the exhibition were given black cloth strips for the occasion, and roses and marigold flowers to be placed at the hoarding.

In honour

“We pay homage to those innocent people who died in the Mumbai terror attacks. We salute the duty-bound police and NSG commandos, who sacrificed their lives to protect the nation from the terrorists,” read the hoarding, which also proclaimed “Let us unite and eradicate terrorism”.

The hoarding also carried photos of Anti Terrorism Squad chief Hemanth Karkare and NSG commando Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who were felled by the bullets of the terrorists.

With the hoarding placed at a vantage position at the entrance of the exhibition, almost all visitors spared a moment to pay their respects to the departed.

“Almost all the people coming to the exhibition paid homage. Marigold flowers are being given by our staff to the visitors,” Mr. Ibrahim said.
