Mega job fair focuses on rural youth

Special Correspondent

SALEM: A mega job fair, organised by Don Bosco Anbu Illam and Salem Diocese Youth Commission in collaboration with Don Bosco’s Career Guidance and Job Placement Centre, received huge response.

The job fair’s main objective, according to its organisers, was to motivate the youngsters by providing them with opportunities for jobs. With stress on rural youth to make them economically independent, the fair was conducted at the Moovender Hall on Saturday.

The organisers said that many of the rural youth were not given opportunities to display their talents due to lack of guidance.

This had resulted in irregular income to those living in villages.

Hence, the Don Bosco had decided to provide proper guidance, motivation, training and job opportunities for the rural youth.

The job fair attracted nearly 30 firms including the automobile majors such as Hero Honda and chemical industries, which also offered posts ranging from managerial cadres to helpers.

Many firms based in the western zone such as Perunthurai, Dharmapuri, Hosur, Attur, Avinasi and Salem also took part and recruited the youths.

Vicar General of Salem Diocese Rev. Fr. Maia Soosai inaugurated the fair. Director, Cauvery Development Office, Salesain Provincial House, Tiruchi, Rev. Fr. Arul Maran and Director, Don Bosco Anbu Illam, Salem, Rev. Fr. Xavier Michael participated.
