PUDUKOTTAI: The damage to roads, bridges, culverts and other highways infrastructure all over the State in the heavy rain has been put at Rs.65 crore, Minister for Highways Vellakoil M. P. Saminathan has said. Addressing reporters after inspecting the damage here, Mr. Saminathan said roads to a length of 6,400 km had been damaged. Nine major bridges and 115 culverts had been weakened. In all, 15 highways sites had been cut off from the normal transport. East Coast Road in the district had also been damaged, with one of the diversion roads near Kattumavadi developing a breach, affecting traffic. In Pudukottai district, the damage had been put at Rs.45 lakh. Earlier, he inspected the damage to highways and district roads at Sembattur, Andakulam, Kundrandarkovil, Killukottai, Manai Eripatti at and around Pudukottai. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
