CHENNAI: Pre-paid taxi services at the Chennai airport, which were suspended on Thursday and Friday following heavy rain, started functioning normally on Saturday. R. Subba Rao, Secretary, Chennai Airport Prepaid Taxi Owners’ and Driver’s Association, said that there were nearly 250 pre-paid taxis at the airport. On Wednesday and Thursday braving the rain, nearly 200 vehicles took passengers to interior areas both in the city and its suburbs. However, the vehicles were caught in the rain and stranded in various locations. On Wednesday night, there were only about 50 vehicles at the airport and the drivers, fearing problems to their vehicles, decided not to operate the services. Following this, a board was put up at the counter stating that the services would be suspended for two days. The vehicles had been repaired and the system was now functioning normally, he said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
