Dream realised: Schoolchildren are all happy as the foundation stone for their new building is laid on Saturday.

HYDERABAD: NGOs can play an important role in various development activities being carried out by the government, said S.Mukteshwar Rao, Hyderabad Joint Collector. Talking on the need for collaboration between government and non-government organisations, he said that if developmental works were carried out in association with the NGOs then it would be much more transparent.

The foundation stone was laid for a three-storeyed government school in Jawahar Nagar, Yousufguda. According to a press release, it is being built in association with Rajiv Vidya Mission and Rotary Club at a cost of Rs.60.20 lakh. The Joint Collector assured that they would complete construction of the school within nine months.

P.Sudhakar Reddy, MLC, said that though the government had introduced many welfare schemes, the poor were unable to avail of them due to illiteracy. Sarath, President, Rotary Club, also promised to provide the school with 3,000 benches. He also said that the Rotary Club would strive to create awareness on vaccination, health and sanitation, etc in slums.

B.Mallamma, DEO, Hyderabad, P.D.Srinivas, Rajiv Vidya Mission and MLA P.Vishnuvardhan Reddy were present at the meeting.
