MADURAI: In order to create awareness among the larger public of the need to implement the concept of ‘rainwater harvesting’ and enhance the natural resources and sustain them for future generations, a rally was taken out here on Saturday. The contemporary situation where changes are happening at a rapid pace in the global environment, which has resulted in the depletion of water resources, was what made the organisers to conduct the rally. Around 600 NCC cadets from Navy and Army wings participated in the rally which started from the Medical College and terminated at Sourashtra Higher Secondary School. The rally was conducted by the cadets of 4 TN Engineer Company NCC on behalf of Madurai NCC Group HQ and was coordinated by V. Abhai Kumar, Principal, Thiagarajar College of Engineering, and R. Muruganantham, Associate NCC Officer Lieutenant. At Sourashtra Higher Secondary School, students of Thiagarajar College of Engineering displayed various innovative rainwater harvesting models that can be implemented for everyday usage. The students also demonstrated the process. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
