VISAKHAPATNAM: Blood-filled world with gun strikes, panic-stricken faces and the disquieting scene of terrorism came alive on the canvas of a student. Another canvas depicted the same world in soothing white with splashes of green and people of different religions holding hands together. Patriotic spirit oozed out of the freshly painted images at The Hindu-Young World Painting Competition 2008 held at Swarna Bharati Indoor Stadium on Sunday morning.

Around four hundred children from as many as 61 schools, including seven from outside the city, participated in the mega event. There were as many as 517 entries in the junior section (class IV to VII) and 268 in the senior category (class VIII to X) out of which 200 each were selected for Sunday’s final competition. The national sponsor of the event was BooProo and local snacks sponsor was FoodEx.

Prof. Ravi Shankar Patnaik and Srinivas of Andhra University were the judges for the competition.
