Man sentenced to death in murder case

Moga: A local court on Sunday awarded capital punishment to a man for murdering a youth a year ago.

According to the prosecution, Surjit Singh Gill of Baghapurana beat to death on January 2007 a youth who had allegedly maintained a relationship with his daughter.

On the fateful day, the deceased Gurdeep Singh went to the house of the accused where the family overpowered him and then tied him up before killing him mercilessly, they said.

The court acquitted Surjit’s wife Daljit Kaur, son Hardeep Singh, daughter Mandeep Kaur and nephew Jasbir Singh for want of sufficient evidence against them in the case.
