The action of GVMC Commissioner B. Sridhar in asking the voters to get their photos taken at the designated photo lamination centres and to present them is a praise-worthy attempt to ensure exercise of franchise by every member of the electorate. At the same time, the statement of former Chief Election Commissioner J.M. Lingdo that voters’ lists are faulty up to 30 per cent and that people with muscle and money and with criminal background are mostly the contestants, is revealing. On top of this, the convener of Lok Satta Party N. Jayaprakash Narayan adding that the name of Mr. Lingdo does not find place in the voters’ list despite his residing in Hyderabad for the past three years is shocking indeed. Voters’ lists, needless to say, are the basis for conduct of elections in a proper manner. The employees of enumeration job are paid for the work and they should not be spared for any lapses of commission or omission. N.V. Rama Rao Visakhapatnam Stop violence in filmsIn spite of continued resentment by the people of all walks of life including many women’s organisations, there appears to be no decline in showing sex and violence in large doses in recent films. This raises doubt in our minds whether these films are released uncensored. Some of the scenes of excess violence shown are such that they prompt youngsters to commit criminal acts similar to the ones in the movies. It’s time the Government took steps to ensure such films are not screened in future. V.B. Swamy Visakhapatnam Make it a daily trainThe Bhubaneswar-Vizag-Chennai weekly train should be run as a daily train for the convenience of passengers. Also, a Garib Rath should be introduced between Vizag and Chennai on the same lines as the one between Vizag and Secunderabad. P.K. Sankar Visakhapatnam Laudable decisionThe decision of the Eastern Naval Command to conduct a band performance at Visakhapatnam Central Prison to entertain 900 jail inmates is laudable. The Indian Navy band, acclaimed as the best band in Western and Indian classical music, has performed in many major cities. KC Mohanti Visakhapatnam Save us from straysWhile I was on my morning walk last week, I was unfortunately bitten by a stray dog. It was very difficult to extricate myself from the stray dog and it haunts me even in my dreams. I came to know that the same dog bit many people in the area – near Ramalayam on Gopalapatnam main road - in the past. I request the authorities concerned to take appropriate action immediately. S. Sriramulu Visakhapatnam
