TIRUPATI: Girijana Vidyarthi Samakhya (GVS) has decided to intensify agitations in State universities to mobilise ST students against the government to demand their legitimate share in political appointments and in the nominated posts. This was indicated here on Sunday by its founder-president V. Sankar Nayak while formally launching the Samakhya’s unit in the Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Tirupati. He regretted that when it came to appointing STs to nominated posts and to government committees and boards in commensurate with their population percentage, all the political parties have given them a raw deal. They implemented the rule of reservation to STs only vis-À-vis the fringe benefits denying them their due share in the nominated posts. It was in this connection that the GVS has resolved to get proactive on all campuses. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
