HYDERABAD: The committee constituted by the Legislative Council to go into the problems of Telugu speaking people in other States will submit its interim report to the government on December 4. The committee that toured Orissa, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka States held extensive discussions with the respective Chief Ministers and senior officials on the issues confronting Telugu people living there. It observed that despite sufficient strength, Telugu medium schools were closed in Orissa for want of trained teachers. “The government there is not interested in taking steps to revive these schools by appointing trained teachers,” a member of the committee said. Legislative Council Chairman A. Chakrapani, however, refused to elaborate on the highlights of the panel’s tour to the three States on the ground that the report could be made public after it was placed in the Council and the Legislative Assembly. On the winter session commencing from Monday, he said the House would discuss various issues including cyclone relief, welfare schemes and prices. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
