Opinion - Letters to the Editor

Need for unity

India’s unity and integrity cannot be harmed by cowardly terror attacks on innocent people. Every patriotic citizen should salute the security personnel who died fighting the terrorists.

The Mumbai attack was an attack on India. I, a practising Indian Muslim, condemn the attack. I can sense the frustration and the fear of retaliation among fellow Muslims.

But I am sure that in such times of tragedy we will stand united and will not allow the nefarious designs of terrorists to divide us.

Haseeb Ahmad Khan,

Nagpur

The situation prevailing in India today is similar to what prevailed in the 17th and 18th centuries when the country was divided into a number of principalities facilitating the entry of foreign forces. Instead of principalities, we have the States now and the demand for the creation of more States is growing. Such parochial tendencies will only weaken the country.

S. Ramnath,

Hyderabad

We must show the anti-social elements that we can get as tough as the Himalayas and as vibrant as the Ganges. The sacrifice of our policemen and NSG commandos will be remembered by all Indians.

Marripudi Amaresh,

Visakhapatnam
