BANGALORE: Several organisations and individuals on Saturday lined up near Mahatma Gandhi statue on Mahatma Gandhi Road here and staged a silent protest condemning the terror attacks in Mumbai. The protest was organised by organisations such as Vimochana and CIEDS. The protesters were holding placards with messages such as “Our voice is against terrorism” and “Peace is not negotiable”. They expressed concern over the increasing terrorist activities in the country and political parties politicising the issue. The protesters said there should not be further violence as a reaction to the present incident and appealed to the public not to label a particular community as responsible for the incident. ‘Unjust’“We gathered here to condemn all acts of violence and protest against unjust and opportunistic targeting of communities in the name of fighting terrorism,” a protester said. “We also wanted to convey our message to the families of victims of this incident that we stand in support of them,” said another protester. They demanded a transparent process of trial and justice, and responsible and impartial media coverage of all such attacks. A few foreign nationals also took part in the protest. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
