Expedite construction of library

The public library at Paramakudi is functioning in a dilapidated building with poor amenities. It has remitted Rs.10 lakh for the construction of the building. The land owned by the municipality has been allotted for the library. But the work has not commenced yet. There is some unwanted delay in the construction of the building for the library. Will the authority concerned intervene and speed up the work?

On the National Highways – 49, passing through Paramakudi Municipal limits and its two-km stretch that connects Kattuparamakudi to ITI terminal, a lot of potholes have come up in the recent rains. Hence I request the authorities concerned to undertake proper maintenance works on this highway stretch on a war footing.

Ramanathapuram Municipality has been sterilising stray dogs and letting them again in the place on the same streets, where they were caught. Due to this impracticable approach, the number of stray dogs has increased alarmingly. They are chasing children, cyclists and motorists. Sometimes it also results in accidents. If it is so, the municipality should address the Government to get orders in the matter of killing the stray dogs or otherwise they would get increased and pose a threat to the public.

Like that of air passengers, there must be an insurance cover for all bus passengers. The State-owned buses as well as private buses should get the vehicles insured comprehensively covering the lives of passengers according to the seating capacity or loading capacity. In the event of an accident, the passengers should be able to get compensation by making the insurance of bus passengers compulsory for all transport operators including Government.

The principal secretary of Health and Family Welfare Department, V.K. Subburaj, is reported to have got down from his car at Simmakkal in Madurai and went alone to buy fruit at a stall (The Hindu dated November 24). The people who could recognise him were full of appreciation for his simple and unassuming nature. What a breezy contrast this is to the way in which our government officials conduct themselves! Quite often one finds government jeeps/cars transporting officials’ children to the school and back home. These vehicles are used without compunction to take their family to the railway station and to pick them up on their return. How frequently the officials and the subordinate staff use the office phone to discuss their personal and family matter is another example of misuse of official privilege. The healthy example of the state health secretary is worthy of emulation by the bureaucracy may his tribe increase!
