Wakf property encroachment case goes to CoD

Bangalore: Minister for Haj and Wakfs, and Minority Welfare Mumtaz Ali Khan said here on Monday that Home Minister V.S. Acharya had agreed to his request to entrust the case pertaining to encroachment of a prime wakf property in Bangalore to the Corps of Detectives (CoD).

The Minister told presspersons that the board, some years ago, had sold the land to an individual on the basis of fake records after the buyer paid Rs.1 crore. Dr. Khan said the Wakf Board owned 35,000 properties throughout the State and the survey with regard to 18,000 of them had been completed. Dr. Khan said the board had requested the Karnataka High Court to allow it to raise the rent fixed for the Windsor Manor Hotel, here. The Minister said the New Moon Committee constituted for finalising the date for celebrating Bakrid in the State had decided that the moon could be sighted on December 9 and not December 8. In view of this, a request had been made to the Chief Secretary that the date of holiday be changed to December 9.
