HYDERABAD: The State government has decided to provide scholarships to students hailing from Economically Backward Classes pursuing their higher education courses. Accordingly, EBC students pursuing professional courses and staying at university hostels would be paid a monthly scholarship of Rs. 962 while it would be Rs. 442 in respect of those staying in private hostels and Rs. 429 in case of day scholars. A scholarship of Rs. 682 a month would be paid to students undergoing M.A/M.Com/M.Sc courses and staying in university hostels, Rs. 442 for those staying in private hostels and Rs. 429 for day scholars. Similarly, scholarship of Rs. 520, Rs. 325 and Rs. 240 would be paid to students of three categories undergoing B.A/B.Sc/B.com courses and it would be Rs. 682, Rs. 442 and Rs. 429 for those pursuing polytechnic courses. The State government has released Rs. 30 crore towards scholarships for the year 2008-09. Collegiate Education commissioner Luv Agarwal said in a press release that interested students can download the application from the website www.apcce.gov.in or obtain them from the principals of respective colleges.
