VISAKHAPATNAM: Visakhapatnam won the title for the 11th year in a row in the State sub-junior boxing championship. It topped the table with 63 points, in the K. Rama Rao memorial 24th state championship, which concluded here on Sunday. Ranga Reddy with 42 points finished runner-up. The gold medallists: Hemanth Kumar (28-30kg category); Vijaya Kumar (30-32kg); Santosh Kumar (36-38kg); Syed Afsar (40-42kg); M. Manikanta (34-38 kg); Shyam Kumar (38-40kg); Santosh (40-42kg); Durga Prasad (40-44kg); Ashok (44-48 kg); Ganesh (44-46 kg); Sagar (46-48kg); Chinna Rao (44-46kg); Ravindra Babu (48-50kg); Balakrishna (50-52kg); Yellaji (52-54kg). Maharashtra triumphsThe Maharashtra region won the all-India Employees Provident Fund Organisation Twenty20 cricket tournament which concluded at the Ukku stadium here on Sunday. Maharashtra topped the table with 12 points after beating Karnataka by six wickets in the final league match. Karnataka was runner-up with eight points. The scores: Karnataka 114 for eight (B.H. Jagannath 25, Amit Tawade three for 23) lost to Maharashtra 115 for four in 19.3 overs (Machindra Bamme 46, Nipul Bansali 30). West Bengal 133 for seven (Ali Alam 40, Nilanjan Chatterjee 36) bt Delhi 67 in 15.5 overs. Karnataka 162 for six (Jagannath 41, S. Subramanya Raju 36) bt West Bengal 32 in 14.2 overs. Maharashtra 190 for two (Machindra Bamme 92, Sachin Sawant 72) bt Delhi 110 for seven (Ashok Kumar 31, Sachin three for 22). Special awards: Player of the tournament & best all-rounder: Sachin Sawant (Maharashtra); Best batsman: Machindra Bamme (Maharashtra); Best bowler: V. Nagabhushan (Karnataka). Kurnool retains titleKurnool retained the girls’ title while Nellore won the boys’ crown in the 22nd Andhra State junior inter-district ball badminton championships which concluded here on Sunday.
