Unorganised sector workers stage protest

KARUR: Members of the Federation of Workers in Unorganised Sector organized a novel demonstration here on Monday holding a begging bowl in their hands as they protested.

The demonstration was organized in front of the Taluk Office on the Jawahar here. Led by the State joint secretary M. Periyasamy, the protestors held a begging bowl to show their plight. Their charter of demands included recognizing the role of the Welfare Board for the Unorganised sectors in disbursing benefits, bringing the boards under the Department of Labour and appointing a separate minister, clearing welfare benefit applications that were pending for long, regularization of jobs, wages and ESI as also other benefits for the workers in the unorganized sectors. They demanded that the Central and State governments should ensure the implementation of demands.
