Municipal Commissioner inspects wards

VISAKHAPATNAM: Municipal Commissioner B. Sridhar on Monday said the removal of girders in the SL Canal for its de-silting will be taken up with the Port Trust officials, if necessary. During his surprise visit at Indira Priyadarshini Stadium, he saw that sewage from four outlets from the KGH and other areas was flowing into the SL Canal. However, the SL canal could not be de-silted by sending vehicles owing to the girders in it, Chief Medical Officer (Health) Dasari Abbulu explained to the Commissioner.

Mr. Sridhar directed Executive Engineer Simon Raju to prepare proposals for de-silting in the area. People complained that the unauthorised parking of lorries near the stadium was obstructing traffic and leading to pollution. Mr. Sridhar said he would take up the issue with the Police Department. He instructed officials to get the quality of the tricycles examined. Only 44 of the 400 tricycles ordered have been delivered. The supply should be expedited and provided to the wards. The file relating to ten dumper bins and placers each should be processed and the purchase should be made after getting the approval, the Commissioner told the officials. Mr. Sridhar also made visits to Wards 28 and 30 and saw the condition of sanitation, street lighting, drains, water supply and debris removal. Zone II Core Committee in-charge and Additional Commissioner (Finance) N. Mohana Rao, Assistant Medical Officer Vasanta Rao and Assistant City Planner N. Srinivasa Rao participated.

Additional Commissioner (General) Pola Bhaskar expressed his anger at dustbins still not being distributed in Ward 10, one of the wards selected for implementation for dustbin-free sanitation scheme. He wanted the bins to be given in a day. He warned officials to improve the situation in a week. He visited Krishna College Road, Maddilapalem, KRM Colony and other areas. AMO D. Bhaskara Rao, ACP Lakshmana Rao and EE Rajendra Krishna participated.
