For a solution: A meeting of Salem District Panchayat Council in progress on Tuesday. – SALEM: A district panchayat council member alleged that poor quality blue metals were being used for laying of roads in Thesavilakku village panchayat in Taramangalam block. Making the allegation at the district panchayat council meeting held here on Tuesday, K. Chinnusamy, councillor, said that works were being carried out to lay four roads at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.79 crore in Madathur, Karuthanur, Thoppampatti to Latchumayur and Thuttampatti to AR Colony, coming under the Taramangalam block. Poor quality blue metals were being used for the formation of these roads, he alleged. Mr. Chinnusamy wanted the district authorities to inspect and initiate immediate efforts to ensure quality in the formation of roads. District panchayat president K. Shanmugam said that an inquiry would be instituted and appropriate action taken if irregularities were found.
