About 1,600 participants from 75 universities Competitions will be held in 27 events at six venues MALAPPURAM: Calicut University will host this year’s edition of the Inter-University South Zone Youth Festival from December 10 to 14. About 1,600 students from 75 universities in Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry and Lakshadweep will display their talents at the five-day festival to be held on the Calicut University campus. Competitions will be held in 27 events in such categories as painting, theatre, dance, music, literature and quiz. There will be six events in painting, four in theatre and four in dance, including classical and semi-classical dance forms. There would be six stages for the events, said P.V. Valsaraj, Dean of Students Welfare. The main stage is being erected in front of the language block. The other stages include the university auditorium, the seminar complex and the department of students welfare. The seminar complex will have three venues. The events will be judged by leading artistes from south India. The results will be announced at the valedictory session on December 14, said Mr. Valsaraj. Calicut University will host the festival in association with the Association of Indian Universities and the Ministry of Youth Affairs. The first and second prize winners will be qualified to take part in the Inter-University National Youth Festival. The Union Ministry of Human Resources Development will sponsor the event as part of its national integration drive. Efforts are on to clean up the university campus and beautify it as part of the event, which is being held on the campus for the second time in recent years. AccommodationAccommodation for participants will be provided at the language block, management block, women’s hostel, indoor stadium and foreign students’ home.
