Order to auction seized vehicles High Court round-up

KOCHI: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Tuesday directed the Chief Secretary to convene a meeting of the heads of the departments of police, motor vehicle, excise, and revenue and take steps for disposing of all the seized vehicles which were lying in their custody for more than a month.

The Bench comprising Justice C.N. Ramachandran Nair and Justice Harun-ul-Rashid also directed the Chief Secretary to give instructions to the heads of the departments to auction off all vehicles seized in connection with various cases within three months.

The judges issued the directives while dealing with a motor accident claim case.

A Bench of Chief Justice H.L. Dattu and Justice A.K. Basheer rejected a public interest litigation (PIL) filed against the appointment of Jacob Punnoose as Director-General of Police (Law and Order). Petitioner P.V. John of Kothamangalam contended that Mr. Punnoose was not fit to be appointed to the post of DGP as the High Court had in a case made remarks against him. Rejecting the petition, the Bench pointed out that the remarks were general in nature and were applicable to the police as a whole.

A Bench has quashed the order of the High Court Registrar (Subordinate Judiciary) refusing permission sought by Mohammed Raees for participating in the interview for the post of District Judge.

A petition was filed seeking a direction to the Travancore Devaswom Board to allow devotees to offer ‘dakshina’ directly to the Sabarimala Melsathi for getting ‘prasadam.’ The petition also sought a direction to the Board to introduce token system for collecting ghee for Neyyabhishekam. The restoration of Ashtabhishekam was also sought.
