Regrettable, says Karat

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The CPI(M) on Tuesday described the remarks of Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan about his visit to the house of the slain NSG commando Sandeep Unnikrishnan as “regrettable.”

“Certain remarks made by V.S. Achuthanandan are regrettable,” CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat said in a statement issued from Rajasthan. He had spoken to Mr. Achuthanandan over phone, Mr. Karat said. The Chief Minister told him that he had gone to the residence of Major Unnikrishnan — who was killed battling terrorists in Mumbai’s Hotel Taj Mahal — to pay homage and condole with the family.

Condemning Mr. Achuthanandan’s remarks, the Congress demanded an apology from him.
