Concerns of 2011 WC too far fetched: BCCI

New Delhi: The BCCI on Tuesday described as “too far fetched” media reports that the sub-continent could lose the right to host the 2011 cricket World Cup because of continuous terror attacks, saying the high-profile event was still a long way away.

“It is still too early to talk about the 2011 World Cup being shifted from the sub-continent. It is too far-fetched. I don’t think there will be any problem in holding the event,” senior BCCI official Rajiv Shukla said. “All the security issues will be sorted out, I don’t think that will be a problem at all”, said Shukla.

The ICC was expected to discuss the issue in its Executive Council meeting in South Africa next week. The reports also stated that if the ICC decides to shift the event, Australia and New Zealand, the co-host in 2015, are the prime contenders for staging the tournament. — PTI
