Rotary Club distributes awards

PUDUKOTTAI: The Rotary Club of Pudukottai Midtown celebrated the official visit of Rotary governor P. Dhamodharan to the club on Sunday by honouring people from various sections of the society for their contributions.

Mr. Dhamodharan presented the best teacher award to R. Paramasivam, Headmaster of Gandhinagar Government High School, best policeman award to K. Subramanian attached to the Town Police Station, best driver award to N. Mani and best conductor award to R. Prakash, both of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation; best medical assistant award to V. Ramadoss of Government Headquarters Hospital; and best medical shop award to Valli Medicals.

The Rotary governor, who was accompanied by his wife Manimekalai, also presented best artist award to B. Karthik, a class IX student of Kulapathi Baliah Matriculation School. He won the national stamp drawing contest and his painting has been released as a stamp by the Department of Posts.

Tirukkural learner award

S. Ambumathi, a class IV student of Sri Vairam Matriculation School was given the best Tirukkural learner award. Master Anbumathi could recite all the 1,330 Tirukkural couplets without any mistake.

V. Ramesh and M. Abdul Rasheed, both of TELC School, had represented Tamil Nadu in the beach volleyball nationals and both of them were honoured with the best sportsmen award.

Mr. Dhamodharan distributed a cheque of Rs.1,001 as patron fee to the Vallathirakottai Panchayat Union Primary School, fan to old age home run by Grama Swaraj Service Organisation at Keeranur and emergency light to Annai Theresa home for the orphans.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Dhamodharam commended the club for undertaking various welfare projects to help the weaker sections of the society.

Club president P. Ganesan presided over the function and secretary S. Basheer Ahamed presented the annual report.
