CUTTACK: The High Court on Tuesday completed hearing on the petition filed by Catholic Church nun Meena Lalita Barwa who had sought for change of venue of TI parade. The single-judge Bench of Justice B.K.Patel has reserved its judgment, which is likely to be pronounced on Thursday. The nun, who was allegedly paraded naked and raped in Kandhamal in August this year, had moved the HC urging for a direction to the lower court to complete the TI parade proceedings outside the strife-torn district. Currently undergoing treatment in New Delhi, the victim had suggested holding the TI parade either in New Delhi or anywhere outside the district, preferably in Bhubaneswar or in Cuttack. Responding to the petition, the State government told the HC on Tuesday that the prosecution (state crime branch police) is also thinking of requesting the lower court to hold the TI parade outside the violence-hit district but not outside the State. Hearing both opposite parties and the petitioner, Justice Patel has reserved his order which is likely to be delivered on December four, sources said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
