Distinction for block

ARIYALUR: Of the 21 panchayats – one tenth of the total number of villages in the district – chosen for the Nirmal Puraskar (Award) this year as part of the Total Sanitation Campaign implemented by the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Jayamkondam block accounts for the highest number of six villages.The villages in Jayamkondam Block constitute Gangaikandacholapuram, Kallathur, Kalumangalam, Kaluvanthondi, J. Thathanur and Katchiperumal. The four villages chosen from Ariyalur block are Govindapuram, Husseinabad, Kairalabad and Venkatakrishnapuram.

There are three each in the blocks of Tirumanur (Sullangudi, Villupanakurichi and Parpanacheri), Senthurai (Mahalkuzhi, Unjini and Sirugalathur) and T. Pazhur (Edankanni, Vazhaikurichi and Ponpathinthanallur) blocks.

The remaining two villages Periyathukurichi and Sriraman belong to Andimadam block.
