outlet: Temporary drain being dug by the Corporation to facilitate rainwater to drain at South Ashok Nagar in Tiruchi. TIRUCHI: The Tiruchi Corporation was taking steps to drain the water stagnant in residential areas in the city following last week’s heavy rain, Mayor Sarubala R.Tondaiman and Commissioner T.T.Balsamy said on Tuesday. They inspected various residential colonies to supervise the operations. “Steps have been taken to drain the water from open plots and roads. Bleaching powder is being sprayed in the affected areas and anti-mosquito fogging has been taken up intensively,” Mr.Balsamy said in a press release. Corporation earth movers and men were deployed at various places to dig temporary channels to drain the water. Officials have been instructed to remove encroachments which impeded the flow of water. Mrs.Tondaiman and Mr.Balsamy inspected the affected areas in wards 36 and 39. They assured to consider a demand for constructing a drain from the Srinivasa Nagar to Gangai Nagar. Residents of Keezha Panchapur demanded improvements to civic amenities. They visited Venkateswara Nagar, Muthulakshmi Nagar, Aishwarya Nagar and Kottapattu areas. The corporation continued to organise special medical camps across various affected areas in the city for the fourth day on Tuesday. Special camps were held at Ariyamangalam Srinivasa Nagar, Edamalaipattipudur Kuttimalai, Linga Nagar-Cauvery Nagar, Venice Street, Mela Chinthamani, Thiruvanaikovil and Kuzhumani Road. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
