No security threat to Sabarimala: ADGP

Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA: Additional Director General of Police V.R. Rajeevan said that Sabarimala did not face any security threat in the wake of the recent terrorist strikes in Mumbai.

Mr. Rajeevan, accompanied by Sannidhanam Police Special Officer T. Vikram and Pathanamthitta SP K.K. Chellapan, was addressing a press conference at Sannidhanam on Wednesday evening.

However, Central as well as State forces have been strengthened at Sabarimala from December 5 to 7 in the backdrop of the anniversary of Babri mosque demolition, he said.

The ADGP said deployment of the Rapid Action Force, National Disaster Response Force and State Commandos had boosted security at Sabarimala.

Mr. Rajeevan said additional police force have been kept ready at the Kerala Armed Police camps at Adoor and Maniyar for deployment at Sabarimala, if needed.

Power problems

He said the police have expressed concern over the security problems likely to occur in the event of a power failure.

The police have already wrote to the high power committee chairman, K. Jayakumar, on the need to provide uninterrupted power supply at Appachimedu and at U-turn by installing a generator.
