Hasten decision on land, IISc. told

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Wednesday reiterated his intention to provide 1,000 acres of land for a second campus of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.).

“We have already shown two or three places to IISc. experts,” he said at the inauguration of the institute’s centenary celebrations.

The Chief Minister requested the Director of IISc. to finalise the location “so that we can grant the land at the earliest.”

Mr. Yeddyurappa said the IISc., which has played an “inspirational role”, should now “come up with suitable scientific innovations to tackle the emerging trend of hi-tech terrorism and extremism.”

Key factor

The presence and contribution of this institute was a major factor for Bangalore being labelled the science capital and knowledge centre of India, he said, adding that the institute’s credentials were reflected in the large number of publications and the many faculty members who have been conferred the Padma awards.
