Vishvesh Sinha enters last four

GURGAON: Qualifier Vishvesh Sinha continued his good run and outwitted Anton Korchevskyy of Ukraine 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the boys’ section in the ITF grade IV junior tennis tournament at the NTA Complex here on Wednesday.

In another match, Srikar Alla ousted Mohit Mayur for the loss of four games. Shahbaaz Khan and Kaza Vinayak Sharma were the others to make the boys’ semifinals.

Nimisha loses

In the girls’ quarterfinals, fourth seed Valentina Starkova of Kazakhstan rallied splendidly to beat National junior champion Nimisha Mohan without dropping a game, after losing the first set.

The former National junior champion, Prerna Bhambri, would attempt to stop the fine run of Starkova, in the semifinals.

The results:

Boys (U-18) (quarterfinals): Srikar Alla bt Mohi Mayur 6-3, 6-1; Vishvesh Sinha bt Anton Korchevskyy (Ukr) 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Shahbaaz Khan bt Sumeet Shinde 7-6(4), 6-4; Kaza Vinayak Sharma bt Naveen Sai 6-4, 6-3.

Girls (U-18) (quarterfinals): Prerna Bhambri bt Arantxa Andrady 6-0, 6-2; Valentina Starkova (Kaz) bt Nimisha Mohan 1-6, 6-0, 6-0.

Ankita Raina bt Aishwarya Shrivastava 6-2, 4-6, 7-5; Melis Sezer (Tur) bt Shweta Chandra Rana 6-4, 6-2.

Pre-quarterfinals: Arantxa bt Garima Vatwani 5-7, 6-3, 7-5; Valentina bt Noy Mor (Isr) 4-6, 6-1, 6-1; Nimisha bt Adnya Naik 3-6, 6-4, 6-4; Aishwarya bt Natasha Palha 6-3, 6-4.
