Chief Minister promises new Council complex

Some members and Ministers turn up late for question hour

Debate on scholarships for weaker sections remains inconclusive

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy inaugurated the Legislative Council Library on Wednesday and later announced in the House that the construction of a new complex for the Council would be taken up by the government in its next term. He was responding to a request of CPI member Puvvada Nageswarao to take up construction of a new building complex at the earliest since the existing one was small and congested.

As the elections were fast approaching, the construction of a new complex, though under consideration, would be taken up by the Government in the next term, Dr. Reddy added.

Many members on the third day of Council session appeared to be in a relaxed mood with some members and Ministers turning up late for the question hour forcing Chairman A. Chakrapani to postpone the first few listed questions.

Only three of the 10 questions could be taken up as teacher-members preferred not to press them in view of the dharna organised by teachers’ organisations near the Indira Park.

Delay

There was considerable delay in taking up the subsequent agenda due to inauguration of library.

As a result, the short discussion on disbursement of scholarships for the weaker sections remained inconclusive.
