Confusion over Inter marks weightage cleared

Practical exam marks to be considered for arriving at EAMCET rank

Students taking advanced supplementary exam will also be considered
EAMCET pattern will remain same for 2009 too: APSCHE officials

HYDERABAD: Clearing the confusion, the State government has finally declared that practical examination marks for the 25 per cent weightage of Intermediate marks to be given for arriving at the EAMCET rank would be considered.

A.P. State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) Chairman K.C. Reddy and the Technical Education Commissioner L. Premchandra Reddy told reporters that as per the G.O. 61 practical examination marks will have to be counted. Students who take advanced supplementary examinations of Intermediate would also be considered.

“However, the EAMCET pattern will remain same for 2009 too,” they said.

To arrive at the final rank, marks secured in three subjects of EAMCET would be calculated for 75 per cent and they would be added to the 25 per cent equivalent of the marks scored in the core subjects.

For example, if a student scores 140 marks out of 160 in EAMCET, his marks would be obtained by dividing 140 with the multiplication of 160 and 75. It would come to 65.625 marks and this would be added to the 25 per cent equivalent of Intermediate marks obtained using similar formula. Similar procedure would be adopted for CBSE and ICSE marks also.

In case of a tie, the comparison for a better rank would be arrived at by first considering the total marks in EAMCET and if they are also equal, marks scored in Mathematics or Biology would be the next consideration.

If there is a tie again, marks scored in Physics in EAMCET would come into picture and even if they are equal, the total marks obtained in the Intermediate examination would be considered. If still a tie, the date of birth would be considered and the older would get preference.

“Effectively, everyone would be given a separate rank with this method,” Prof. Reddy said.

Web-based counselling

Prof. Reddy said since the final rank was not linked with Intermediate examination, the marks obtained in EAMCET would be announced as per schedule while the final ranking would be given once the results of supplementary examination are out.

If any candidate gets additional marks in recounting, separate rank would be given without disturbing the merit. He said counselling for admissions next year would be totally web-based.
