Azadi Bachao Andolan on Dec. 27, 28

VISAKHAPATNAM: The National Convention of Azadi Bachao Andolan will be held at Swagram Ashram at Wardha in Maharastra on December 27 and 28.

According to the local convener of the Convention Narava Prakasa Rao, the national conference will discuss issues like challenges before movement and anti-SEZ movement.

World Disabled Day was observed at NTPC Simhadri on Wednesday. General Manager in charge of NTPC Simhadri R. Venkateswaran felicitated eight physically challenged employees of the project and appreciated their services.

Retried Assistant Director of the Disabled Welfare Department M. Shamshuddin and a teacher of the Omkar Lions School for Deaf and Dumb Krishna Kumari attended.

At a separate function held at the VUDA Children Theatre, NTPC Simhadri distributed steel plates were distributed to over 1,000 physically challenged children.

The Forum of Legal Professionals had demanded that the Government should initiate immediate steps to implement the beneficial provisions of Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995 as contained in Sections 42 to 47 of the Act.

According to the forum president Kuppili Muralidhar, the said Sections provide for affirmative action and to ensure non-discrimination to the physically challenged in respect of transport by rail or road.
