THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 13th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) will feature a special category with films by contemporary and upcoming filmmakers. As many as 19 films by four leading directors of these times have been included in this section. Idrissa Ouedraogo from Africa, Samira Makhmalbaf from Iran, Fatih Akin from Turkey and Karen Shakhnazarov from Russia are the filmmakers who are represented in the section. Four internationally acclaimed films by festival jury member Idrissa Ouedraogo have been included in this category. They are Kini and Adams, Yaaba, Tilai and Samba Taroare. Samira Makhmalbaf’s Blackboard, At five in the afternoon and Two legged horse and Fatih Atkin’s Head on, Crossing the bridge, In July and Solino have been included. The vanished empire, Rider named death, Day of the full moon, Winter evening in Gargy and We are from Jazz by Karen Shakhnazarov will be featured. Shakhnazarov’s films mostly deal with nations shifting from socialism. The festival this year will also have a section for new-age Russian films depicting the changing face of Russian cinema in the new world order. The films include Aleksandr Kasatkin’s Listening to the silence, Anna Melikyan’s The mermaid, Sergi Tarasov’s Longing for the future, Anton Megerdichev’s Shadow boxing and The swings by Anton Sivers. A press release issued by IFFK media cell here on Thursday also informed that the delegate cell of the 13th IFFK will be inaugurated by actor Nedumudi Venu at Kalabhavan Theatre on Friday. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
