Held for setting daughter-in-law’s house on fire

TAMBARAM: The Selaiyur police have arrested a 50-year-old woman on charges of setting fire to the house of her daughter-in-law at Mappedu near Tambaram on Wednesday.

Police said Prasad, married to Sathya, died a couple of months ago. His mother Malliga was reported to have frequently quarrelled with her daughter-in-law, blaming her for his son’s death.

On Wednesday, she allegedly set fire to the house in which Sathya was living with her mother Jayalakshmi for some time now. Household articles were damaged in the fire, police said, adding that following a complaint, they arrested Malliga.

Pirated CDs seized

Central Crime Branch personnel have seized pirated discs of new Tamil films from two men in Puzhuthivakkam. Following a tip-off, the CCB team raided a hideout opposite ‘Padhaala’ Vinayagar Temple on Medavakkam Main Road. They seized 525 discs of Tamil films.

The discs were worth nearly Rs. 50,000. Two men, Babu (28) and Ramesh (29) were arrested .

Detained under Goondas Act

Four men have been detained under the Goondas Act for their involvement in crime cases.

Police gave their names as D.Ganesan (25) of Red Hills for his involvement in seven cases of theft, robbery and house breaking in Red Hills, Tiruvotriyur and Elephant Gate police station limits, Y.Mohammed Ali (30) involved in three cases in Red Hills, P.Anand Raj (26) for murder and attempt to murder cases in Avadi and Pattabiram and Davidson (23) for his role in a murder case.
