Londoners hold candlelight vigil

LONDON: Several hundred Londoners, including ministers and Members of Parliament, held candlelight vigil here on Wednesday in memory of those killed in the Mumbai terror attacks.

They gathered at two places in East London—Canary Wharf, home to some of the world’s biggest corporate houses; and in Liverpool Street, heart of London’s financial district.

Common goal

A spokesman of Sewa Volunteers, which had organised the vigil said: “The symbolism of organising this at the two financial districts in London serves to emphasise that despite all the turmoil we see in the markets, we believe that the bond between our two cities is strengthened by a common goal of ensuring the prosperity and safety of our communities.”

Among those who attended were Foreign Office minister Gillan Merron; Minister for London Tony McNulty MP; Deputy Mayor of London Richard Barnes; and representatives of the Indian High Commission.
