NEW DELHI: Ransher Singh scored eight goals in powering Sona Polo to an 11-7 victory over Sahgal Stud in the Reid and Taylor Indian Open polo championship at the Jaipur Polo ground here on Friday. After leading 7-6 at the end of the third chukker, Sona Polo was intense in the climax outplaying Sahgal Stud with a flurry of goals. Angad Kalaan (2) and Sunjay Kapoor not only came up with the other goals for the winner, but combined very well in making a difference to the team’s fortunes. For Sahgal Stud, Manupal Godara was the leading scorer with four goals, while Gaurav Sahgal (2) and Lokendra Singh chipped in with the other three. Sahgal Stud matched its opponent for long, but lacked the energy in the climax to make a match of it. While Sona Polo ensured itself a final berth, Himalayan Horse/Equisport will take on Army on Saturday, for the other slot. — Special Correspondent © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
