Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: The Principal Sessions Court on Friday dismissed the bail petitions of 26 students of Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College in the case relating to the clash at the institution on November 12. The judge also dismissed the anticipatory bail applications of three other students. In his order delivered on Friday evening, Judge P.Devadass, said “the petitioners have a tendency to indulge in law and order problems.” Because of these students the academic activities in law colleges in the State had come to a standstill. He said there were charges of specific overt acts levelled against them and investigations were going on. Earlier in the day, the City Public Prosecutor M. Shahjahan said that the Madras High Court had directed that examinations must be conducted in a peaceful manner and that there should not be any deviation from that directive. On behalf of the 26 students it was submitted that their names did not figure in the FIR and that the violence in the college appeared to be the handiwork of some caste organisations outside the college.
