Fire breaks out at banks

CHENNAI: A fire broke out in a building, in which a private bank is located, in Anna Nagar early on Saturday.

Eight workers, who moved to the top floor on noticing the fire, were rescued safely by Fire and Rescue Services personnel.

Police said thick smoke was seen emanating from a room following which fire tenders were rushed to the spot around 3 a.m.

In a couple of hours, the fire was extinguished.

A few computers, tables and papers were destroyed.

In another private bank on Radhakrishnan Salai, fire broke out from the security guards’ room. It was extinguished within minutes and no damage was reported, the police said.

The cause of fire in both the cases is under investigation.
