P&T Durai MFC emerges champion

TIRUCHI: P&T Durai MFC defeated MPH Albert MFC 2-0 to emerge the Tiruchi District Football Association First Division winners here on Saturday. Roy and Ganesamurthy were the scorers. Both the teams have qualified for the super division league.

Special awards: Best Goalkeeper: Madanakanth; Best Defender: Sridhar; Best Forward: Bhagyaraj.

Kumaran triumphs

S. Kumaran and S. Priyadarshini won the men’s and women’s singles titles respectively at the District-level ranking table tennis tournament, organised by the Southern Railway Institute, in Tiruchi on Sunday.

The results (all finals): Men: S. Kumaran (BHEL CC) bt K. Thivakaran (RSK HSS) 11-7, 7-11, 11-2, 12-10, 13-11.

Women: S. Priyadarshini (Musiri Sports Centre) bt P. Rajamani (Amala Girls HSS) 11-7, 9-11, 12-10, 11-6.

Veterans: P.K. Sukumaran (OFT) bt S. Ravichander (SBI) 11-8, 11-9, 11-5.

Non-medallists: Deepak (NIT-T) bt S. Augustine Inigo (MIET) 11-9, 9-11, 11-7, 11-8.

Junior boys: K. Thivakaran (RSK HSS) bt D. Maria Paul (Dalmia Recreation Club) 6-11, 11-9, 12-10, 5-11, 11-7.

Govt. HSS, Membalam takes honours

Government HSS (Membalam) blanked Blake HSS 3-0 to win the boys’ title at the District-level inter-school hockey tournament, conducted by the Thanjavur-unit of SDAT, in Thanjavur recently.

The results: Boys: Final: Government HSS (Membalam) bt Blake HSS 3-0. Semifinals: Government HSS (Membalam) bt Kamala Subramaniam MHSS 2-0; Blake HSS bt Raja’s HSS 3-0.

Girls: Final: St. Joseph’s Girls HSS bt Auxilium School 2-0.
