Amrita Varshini of Chinmaya Vidyalaya won the first prize in the junior category. P. Jayanthi of Dr. Vimala Convent Higher Secondary School received the second prize and Jerusha Christina Jose of St. John’s English School, Besant Nagar, came third. Junior categoryThe theme for the junior category was ‘Your favourite food at the breakfast table’ and ‘Your pet and you.’ “We judged the paintings based on clarity, colour, and composition,” said one of the judges, Lakshmi Krishnamurthy. “Many students handled the theme with ease and inventiveness exhibiting various dimensions of their intellect,” she added. “The paintings had refinement in application and colour harmony,” said a judge, Sashikrishnan. “Some of the works displayed the spurt of lateral thinking in children. A painting of a child is a mirror of the creative component of the psyche,” he added. All paintings of the competition would be auctioned to offer the proceeds to charity. “It’s okay if I didn’t win a prize. I had fun participating in the competition,” said M. Akshara, one of the enthusiastic participants. Consolation prizes were awarded in all categories. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
